RT-PCR Test for the Detection of SARS-CoV-2.

The RT-PCR test is a laboratory test and the most reliable method to detect infections.

  • Swab in the nasopharynx
  • Evaluation in laboratory
  • Lab report for international travel

PCR stands for polymerase chain reaction. It is the most important laboratory method for investigating the molecular fine structure of genetic material and is used in human medicine, among other things, for diagnosing infectious diseases such as SARS-CoV-2.

For this purpose, we cooperate with laboratories that are specially tailored to the infrastructure of our centers and whose expertise perfectly complements our structures.

Information on conditions and the times of test transmissions can be found above under the category ‘Locations’.

In order not to falsify the result, we ask you to refrain from eating, smoking and drinking in the 20 minutes before the test.

If there is a positive rapid test result of a test performed in one of our Berlin centers, the Next-Day PCR Test (result on the following day by midnight) is free of charge. In such cases, please book the test by clicking on the “OEGD Retesting” button at the top of the screen. If you have paid for a PCR test prior, reimbursement is not possible.

FAQ:

Will I receive an RT-PCR report?2022-03-14T15:08:45+01:00

Yes, all PCR results are issued in the form of an RT-PCR report. The Ct value is indicated for all positive results.

How long can I download my result?2022-02-22T11:09:53+01:00

You can download the result of a rapid test up to 72 hours after receipt. The result of a PCR test up to six days later.

When should or must I be tested?2022-01-21T18:03:27+01:00

Whenever you want to be sure about a possible infection with the coronavirus. Especially if you suffer from flu-like symptoms. A test is obligatory when entering almost all countries. You can find detailed information about the respective regulations on the website of the German Foreign Office. In addition, a test is mandatory when visiting catering establishments and cultural events in many federal states. Especially if there is no complete vaccination. Please inform yourself about the exact regulations in your federal state.

If an infection has only occurred within 72 hours before the test is performed, it is possible that the viral load is too low for detection of the virus when the test is performed. In this case, a negative test result does not represent a definite exclusion of Covid 19 infection, but rather a health status at the time the test was performed. This situation is the same for both rapid antigen tests and PCR tests.

Where can I get a free PCR test if I am a contact person, have symptoms, or want to clear myself from quarantine?2022-01-24T09:29:56+01:00

Please search online for state-owned testing centers or corona practices. In Berlin, you can find all the information on the page of the Senate Administration: here and here. You can also contact the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians.

Only “vulnerable groups” are eligible for the free citizenship test.Eligible are: Pregnant women in the first trimester, hospital and nursing home visitors, household members of infected persons, residents of institutions for integration assistance, and persons who cannot be vaccinated. Free testing only by proof, e.g. identity card.

What is the difference between rapid antigen tests and PCR tests?2022-01-21T17:38:25+01:00

In the PCR test, a sample is taken by means of a nasopharyngeal swab in the nasopharynx. In the rapid antigen test, a convenient swab is taken from the anterior nasal region (1.5 cm). In a PCR test, DNA is multiplied in a polymer chain reaction (PCR) in a laboratory to raise it above the detection limit. An antigen test detects protein fragments of the coronavirus rather than DNA. No multiplication of the virus material is performed for this. Both methods detect whether an infection with SARS-CoV-2 is present.
